Global Missions

Our 60-Day exploration to track down Food Heroes, identify Food Icons, experience Food Rituals and find Food Innovation around the world.

2018 edition

The Food Innovation Program launched its 2nd Global Mission, a comprehensive expedition to research and document the future of food. 16 Master’s students and four coaches visited 12 cities of food innovation and 10 countries in over 60 days. They conducted interviews, collected data, and researched four themes: scalable sustainability and circular systems; the future of proteins; agro-innovation in smart cities; food care and the future of food service.

This 60-day world tour originated in Bologna with the first stop in Amsterdam and the Dutch Food Valley, then to the US with stops in Boston, New York City, Davis, CA, San Francisco & Silicon Valley February. Then the group headed 5,300 miles across the Pacific Ocean to Kyoto, Seoul, Shanghai, and Singapore. Finally in April the mission came to a close in Tel Aviv and London.

After three months of design thinking workshops and community engagement projects, our Global Mission research team set sail around the world.

Working in teams, the participants explored the issues first-hand and had the opportunity to delve deeper into accurately understanding sustainability and innovation in the food sector.
