Food & Climate Shaper Boot Camp - Mediterraneo Edition is around the Corner!

The Year 2020 marks the 10th anniversary of the declaration of the Mediterranean Diet as intangible cultural heritage by Unesco: it is, indeed, thanks to Professor and Scientist Ancel Keys that the Mediterranean Diet became so appreciated worldwide after its studies during the Sixties and the Seventies to turn into a world heritage in 2010.

It was 1962 when he arrived in Naples from the United States to study how people in the region where less subject to heart disease. In the surroundings, exactly in the area of Pollica, he first got in contact with the Mediterranean Diet. He studied and promoted it as a lifestyle, not only related to how we eat, but most of all to how we live, in order to have a better impact on the Planet as well as on everybody’s health and wellbeing.

That is why in this scenario students and change-makers are gathering in Pollica, as the symbolic Capital of the Mediterranean Diet, to attend the “Food & Climate Shapers Boot Camp – Mediterraneo Edition” (September 6th to September 12th), promoted by FAO (United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization) and Future Food Institute to address and mitigate the climate crisis through the regeneration of agri-food systems.

The Boot Camp will also count on the support of partners like the Dutch research center Taste, Crop Trust, the Food Team of Google, Comune di Pollica, Barilla, and 24 Bottles, with the patronage of the European Commission Representation in Italy.

During the training, participants will have the opportunity to meet expert innovators, get inspiration from new agri-food models that are sustainable and provide nutritious and delicious foods. The Boot Camp is designed to be an extraordinary experience aimed at unlocking the potential of the participants and transforming inspiration into action.

This journey will also give participants the opportunity to discover the beautiful land of Cilento and Pollica surroundings: the Archeological Park of Velia, the Mediterranean Diet Museum of Pioppi, the Castle of Pollica (Castello dei Principi Capano) and a selection of other venues where the Lecture in the Field experiences will take place (Tenuta Chirico, Alici di Menaica and Botanical Walks).
