Or a lot of things. A new edition of <strong>Maker Faire Bay Area<\/strong> took place last weekend in San Mateo. For first time in USA, <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/makerfaire.com\/bay-area\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Makers Faire<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> partnered with <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/futurefoodinstitute\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Future Food Institute<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to show creative projects and innovations about food.<\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Food is essential for the human being but it is also a creation and a way to connect with each other. Experimenting with different ingredients, tastes and textures is a daily creation: <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">we are all makers whenever it refers to produce a meal.<\/span><\/i><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Food has its own glossary and that is what the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lexiconoffood.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lexicon of Food<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and his founder <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lexiconoffood.com\/users\/douglas-gayeton\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Douglas Gayeton<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> are trying to achieve: storytelling to move our societies towards \u201cgood food\u201d, a way of producing and consuming that not only focuses on what we are eating but also looking at a broader environment. \u00a0Using the criteria of impact and innovation, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.regrained.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Regrained<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a young emerging company focused on making snacks out of beer spare grain, was awarded with a personalized infographic by Douglas.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One way of doing it is by realising that an apple doesn\u2019t need to look like the Snow White one to be edible. In the 140 square meter dedicated to the Future Food, <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.imperfectproduce.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Imperfect Produce<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was showing visitors that fruits and vegetables do not need to look perfect to be edible: one in five fruits and veggies get tossed for not being pretty while they are perfectly edible. \u00a0Another start up in the area, <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.drinkuglyjuice.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ugly Juice<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is also working in this space: as its name states, they are producing juices out of ugly produces in order to to waste them. <\/span><br \/>\n<i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cSlimy yet satisfying\u201d<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> &#8211; that is what many of us think about eating bugs. A good source of protein, bugs are starting to be seen more and more as food. To avoid its slimy, companies such as <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/don-bugito.myshopify.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Don Bugito<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/bittyfoods.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bitty Foods<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> are making them crunchy and more tasty: offering them in a form of snack.<\/span><br \/>\n<i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI am going to try it with my classroom\u201d<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> explained a teacher while buying a bag of Don Bugito snacks, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cLet\u2019s see what my 8th grade students think about this\u201d<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. \u00a0And it might still not be a tasteful dish for some people, but what it was a fact is that during the Faire, children were really excited about that and as well as adults. It seems that eventually a psychological paradigm is shifting. <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">More \u201cusual\u201d snacks were bars like <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/zegosnacks.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Zego<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, gluten and allergen free snacks with a tracking technology that allows all of us to know more about what we are eating. Another great \u201ctraditional\u201d food was chocolate from <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/dandelionchocolate.com\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dandelion<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a San Francisco based company producing chocolate in small batches. Cynthia, brought to Maker Faire Bay Area all the equipment to produce chocolate: the purpose was to show how easy it is. We just need cocoa beans and sugar &#8211; nothing more!<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Innovation is not only related to what we eat but also to what we produce.
