Co-creating an Experimental Marine Area in the Mediterranean context: fostering science and innovation to support the Mediterranean Diet and heritage

FAO Science and Innovation Forum – Side Event

This event will take place in Pollica (Mediterranean Sea – Southern Italy) and will connect marine science and innovation with the local community. Three working tables will discuss the challenges to let the Mediterranean Lifestyle survive: the first involves local and regional policymakers co-working with local fishermen to design new sea governance tools, the second gathers marine researchers, academics, and startuppers to expand marine research and transparency, the third with trade associations and international experts to empower regenerative fishermen and preserve biodiversity. After summarizing the three sessions, the final discussion will concretize the proposed Experimental Marine Area in the region.
