Nope, just the Food Innovation Program on the road.<\/span>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On the 8<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">th<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of October, FIP packed up its mobile Officucina and headed north to Parma\u2019s <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/officineonoff.com\/2015\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Officine ON\/OFF<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to present a digital workshop and showcase its latest tech tools. \u201cWait, what\u2019s Officine ON\/OFF?\u201d we hear you ask curiously.<\/span>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/foodinnovationprogram.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/officineonoff-parmafablab.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2126\" src=\"http:\/\/foodinnovationprogram.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/officineonoff-parmafablab.jpg\" alt=\"officineonoff-parmafablab\" width=\"700\" height=\"466\"><\/a>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Well, Officine ON\/OFF is a unique space on the outskirts of Parma\u2019s city centre that hosts 34 <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/officineonoff.com\/2015\/coworking\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">co-workers<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, 50 makers, 35 artists, 9 collaborative groups, weekly events and <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/officineonoff.com\/2015\/onoff-in-festa\/corsi-inverno-2015-in-partenza\/corsi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">tech courses.<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It was created to support employability, self-employment and entrepreneurial spirit, to fight early school leaving and youth unemployment, and to promote social and technological innovation within the region.<\/span>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/foodinnovationprogram.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/workshop-setup-fipontheroad.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2132\" src=\"http:\/\/foodinnovationprogram.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/workshop-setup-fipontheroad.jpg\" alt=\"workshop-setup-fipontheroad\" width=\"700\" height=\"466\"><\/a>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">FabLab Coordinator Pietro \u201cBlaBla\u201d Dioni, who has been awarded this nickname for being a fantastic conversationalist, adds, \u201cSince its birth, Officine ON\/OFF focuses on a virtuous circle that connects youngsters and local community in a mutual support point of view. Young people can give back to the community the opportunities received thanks to this virtuous circle, making available some of their time and their skills in support of <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/officineonoff.com\/2015\/fundraising\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">social projects<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u201d He goes on to explain \u201cthe two main areas that characterise Officine ON\/OFF are the co-working space, where freelance workers share ideas, experiences, tools, networks and business opportunities; and the <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/officineonoff.com\/2015\/fablab\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">FabLab<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the laboratory for digital fabrication created by a working group made up of human capital and professional skills, and based on the principles of share, learn and make.\u201c<\/span>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/foodinnovationprogram.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/franescobombardi-antoniogagliardi-fipontheroad.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2124\" src=\"http:\/\/foodinnovationprogram.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/franescobombardi-antoniogagliardi-fipontheroad.jpg\" alt=\"franescobombardi-antoniogagliardi-fipontheroad\" width=\"700\" height=\"466\"><\/a>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">FabLab Parma started after a call for <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/officineonoff.com\/2015\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">makers<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in March 2014. They began their pursuit with only one 3-D printer, but are now waiting for a large format laser cutter. \u201cFunnily enough we don\u2019t do a lot with food, but we have done projects related to several other sectors,\u201d says Dioni. \u201cWe have a group of people who are working on tools for people with disabilities, and we have the heritage lab, where a group is <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/parma.repubblica.it\/cronaca\/2015\/01\/26\/news\/il_restauro_si_fa_in_3d_il_fablab_di_parma_le_imprese_ci_aiutino-105816302\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">working in the heritage world<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, where there is not a lot of money, and digital fabrication could really help this sector,\u201d he says.<\/span>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/foodinnovationprogram.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/officucina-ontheroad-parmafablan.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2127\" src=\"http:\/\/foodinnovationprogram.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/officucina-ontheroad-parmafablan.jpg\" alt=\"officucina-ontheroad-parmafablan\" width=\"700\" height=\"466\"><\/a>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Our \u2018on the road\u2019 team \u2013 Director of Officucina <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.tedxbologna.com\/en\/francesco-bombardi.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Francesco Bombardi<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and FIP Fellow\/Tech Guru <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/foodinnovationprogram.org\/demystifying-digital-food-3-d-printing-with-jeffrey-lipton\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Antonio Gagliardi<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, came armed with a series of innovative tools to showcase how digital fabrication has been applied to the Master course. The products on display consisted of the nonnabot, an avant-garde machine that can actually be used to cut pasta, a laser engraver that cuts out logos (onto bread, plates and other soft materials) as well as a 3-D printer that makes little chocolate figurines.<\/span>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/foodinnovationprogram.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/bombardi-gagliardi-workshop-fablab.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2121\" src=\"http:\/\/foodinnovationprogram.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/bombardi-gagliardi-workshop-fablab.jpg\" alt=\"bombardi-gagliardi-workshop-fablab\" width=\"700\" height=\"466\"><\/a>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The laser engraver was a huge hit, especially with the <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/parma.repubblica.it\/cronaca\/2015\/09\/24\/news\/parmamorethanfood_la_sfida_2_0_per_cultura_e_turismo-123573338\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Parmamorethanfood<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> team, who got to engrave their logo onto a piece of bread. Having only recently launched, this culture and tourism initiative for the city of Parma which incorporates bicycle itineraries, digital\/visual storytelling and digital fabrication in 3D, is already making an impact. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The multi-skilled team consists of a graphic and web designer (Francesca D&#8217;Onofrio), a 3-D archaeologist (Giulio Bigliardi), a social media\/web marketing specialist (Luisella Curcio), and a bicycle enthusiast who graduated in gastronomic sciences (David Pagani). <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Along with bread-logo engraving, we hope that the Food Innovation Program can continue to collaborate and support them in their work.<\/span>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/foodinnovationprogram.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/parmamorethanfood-logo-fipontheroad.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2129\" src=\"http:\/\/foodinnovationprogram.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/parmamorethanfood-logo-fipontheroad.jpg\" alt=\"parmamorethanfood-logo-fipontheroad\" width=\"700\" height=\"466\"><\/a>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">FabLab Parma and <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.fablabreggioemilia.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">FabLab Reggio Emilia <\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">are both part of the <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mak-er.it\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mak-er network<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the first network of makers and FabLabs in the Emilia-Romagna region. FabLab Reggio Emilia was one of the first FabLabs to open in Italy. \u201cI met them both [<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=-OIULe2mtD4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Francesco Bombardi<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and Fernando Arias Sandoval of FabLab Reggio] and it was love at first sight&#8230;. they are both great!
