{"id":551,"date":"2015-11-19T17:08:30","date_gmt":"2015-11-19T17:08:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/vps182827.ovh.net\/FFI\/?p=551"},"modified":"2022-05-23T07:56:26","modified_gmt":"2022-05-23T05:56:26","slug":"empowering-kids-through-food-at-officucina","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/futurefoodinstitute.org\/it\/2015\/11\/19\/empowering-kids-through-food-at-officucina\/","title":{"rendered":"Empowering Kids through Food at Officucina"},"content":{"rendered":"<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kids and parents alike inundated the <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/foodinnovationprogram.org\/officucina\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Officucina in Reggio Emilia<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> this past Saturday to explore food alongside FIP fellows. <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/featapp.com\/en\/abouten\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Chiara Cecchini<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Alice Bennetts, Sebastian Melnitzky, Mercy Chatyoka and Riccardo Fantozzi organized a handful of various events to involve kids from the local area in the food world. The FIP group, that is also working on the Barilla Kids project, reached out to FIP staff<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">e il <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.musei.re.it\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Musei Civici<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to attract kids from primary (6-10 year olds) and secondary (11-14 year olds) schools. The event was well attended by almost 20 kids along with their parents.<\/span>\n<strong><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/foodinnovationprogram.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/kids-lab-officucina.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2360\" src=\"http:\/\/foodinnovationprogram.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/kids-lab-officucina.jpg\" alt=\"kids-lab-officucina\" width=\"700\" height=\"466\"><\/a><\/strong><\/strong>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Says Chiara, \u201cWe organized several activities. The workshop was aimed at primary school kids and the goal was to get them in touch with food, experience ingredients and feel empowered to play and create with food.\u201d When the children first entered the Officucina building, they were able to explore the facility through the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cake Away<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> project. Each kid had a chance to put together a variety of ingredients to compose their own unique and individual cake. After investigating and completing the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cake Away<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> process, the cake was then bundled and packed for the children to take home and share with their families.<\/span>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/foodinnovationprogram.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/kidslab-officucina-reggioemilia.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2366\" src=\"http:\/\/foodinnovationprogram.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/kidslab-officucina-reggioemilia.jpg\" alt=\"kidslab-officucina-reggioemilia\" width=\"700\" height=\"466\"><\/a>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The idea was for the children to become familiar with various ingredients used in cooking and cake decorating, but also to have fun and be creative with food. The activity made sure that the children experienced what it was like to be a \u201cchef,\u201d along with the responsibility and empowerment that cooking and creating can provide. The FIPers involved are all part of the Barilla Kids project team that is working on coming up with ways to innovate in children\u2019s snack foods.<\/span>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/foodinnovationprogram.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/mercy-sebastian-team-barilla-officucina.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2367\" src=\"http:\/\/foodinnovationprogram.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/mercy-sebastian-team-barilla-officucina.jpg\" alt=\"mercy-sebastian-team-barilla-officucina\" width=\"700\" height=\"466\"><\/a>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Saturday morning event also allowed for the group to <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/foodinnovationprogram.org\/turning-ideas-into-opportunities\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">test their final prototype and get feedback and data<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> from the experience. Of the Barilla Kids project Chiara adds, \u201cDuring our research process we realized the importance of empowerment through food as perceived by kids, and want to be able to spread this feeling of empowerment. At the same time, our goal was to perform a final test of our prototype, testing the user experience and interaction. It went really well!\u201d<\/span>\n<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/foodinnovationprogram.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/kids-lab-sebastian-officucina.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2361\" src=\"http:\/\/foodinnovationprogram.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/kids-lab-sebastian-officucina.jpg\" alt=\"kids-lab-sebastian-officucina\" width=\"700\" height=\"466\"><\/a>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On Friday November 20, 2015 FIP fellows and their project work groups will be <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/foodinnovationprogram.org\/event\/food-innovation-program-final-showcase\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">presenting their final research<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and prototypes in a year end celebration. The four teams each tackled different challenges created for them by partners Barilla, Alce Nero, CAAB (FICO) and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wikiexpo.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">WikiExpo<\/a>. It will be an exciting culmination of many months worth of research, design and creation, and provide an opportunity to showcase the hard work that has gone into the FIP year.
