The students were gathered to generate innovative solutions to fight \u00a0waste within the agro-food chain.<\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The event was kicked off by charismatic storyteller <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/NickDifinoOfficial\/?fref=ts\">Nick Difino<\/a>. The event was supported greatly \u00a0by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.istruzione.it\/\">MIUR<\/a> and\u00a0by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politicheagricole.it\/flex\/cm\/pages\/ServeBLOB.php\/L\/IT\/IDPagina\/202\">MIPAAF<\/a>\u00a0for \u2018Agrogeneration\u2019, which is a initiative of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.crea.gov.it\/\">CREA<\/a> (Agriculture Research Council and Economy Analysis). CREA was also one of the most important Italian research organization devoted to agro-food, at the international summit on food innovation &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.seedsandchips.com\">Seeds &amp; Chips<\/a>&#8220;.<\/span><br \/>\nEight teams competed against each other in the hack-waste challenge, it was soon clear to see that it was a great way \u00a0for the institutions and companies taking part to let talent grow and see themselves push \u00a0the limits. Especially as they were experimenting in a non-corporateenvironment. For the Future Food Institute it was the ninth Hackathon in three years and this was the second Hackathon \u00a0to take place \u00a0inside \u2018Agrogeneration\u2019 with CREA \u00a0and MIPAAF. The <a href=\"https:\/\/storify.com\/Ffoodinstitute\/agrogeneration\">last Hackathon<\/a> \u00a0was in July 2016 in Catania.<br \/>\nThere were three teams who won the Hackathon and the first place went to Long Lasting Food, a project which strives to reduce the rate at which fruit and vegetables decay, their idea was to \u00a0use \u00a0biodegradable packaging which has a lid \u00a0that \u00a0sprays and \u00a0increases the amount of non-pathogenic bacteria. The bacteria increases the production of nitrogen which prevents the formation of mold.<br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The three winning teams have been invited to participate in the G7\u00a0of Agriculture, in Bergamo, in October. The event allows other \u00a0young people from around \u00a0the world to talk about new models of agriculture production and food consumption. <\/span><br \/>\nAfter seeing the speech of former President Barack Obama the students returned to the Agora of innovation, for the price giving \u00a0of the Hackathon. The minister of Education, Universities and Research, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.valeriafedeli.it\/\">Valeria Fedeli<\/a>, awarded the winners, and said: \u201cBarack Obama talked during his speech about the importance of sustainability and \u00a0reducing \u00a0food waste. This is a path we already took, thanks to events like \u00a0hack-waste, this event endeavours \u00a0to generate \u00a0innovative solutions and ideas from young aware people.\u201d<br \/>\n\u201cPresident Obama prompts us to take action \u2013 said the Minister of Agricolture, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mauriziomartina.it\/\">Mauirzio Martina<\/a> \u2013 because hunger and malnutrition are created by \u00a0humans, so humans should \u00a0solve these problems. That is why it is essential to raise awareness among the new generations. It is possible teach proper food culture \u00a0inside of the school environment \u00a0and the Hackathon format is proof of this. At the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.expo2015.org\/\">Milan Expo<\/a> we created a no-hunger generation, committed to building a world where people produce more and use less, a sustainable world and zero waste. Agrogeneration took on the hack-waste \u00a0challenge in an extraordinary way and now we are waiting to see \u00a0these young talents in Bergamo for the G7 of agriculture.&#8221;<br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It is not only research, but comparison, collation \u00a0and openness which are the ingredients to gather the opportunities and innovative ideas that \u00a0new generations can offer to the agri-food world.
